In APA style, in-text citations are included within the body of your work to provide a concise reference to the sources of your information. These citations guide readers to the full details of the source in the reference list.
An in-text citation should be included whenever you directly quote or paraphrase content from another work.
There are two main formats for in-text citations:
Parenthetical Citation: The author's name, publication year, and, if applicable, the page number, are placed in parentheses at the end of the sentence.
Narrative Citation: The author's name is integrated into the sentence, followed by the publication year and, if applicable, the page number in parentheses.
Follow the following steps to insert in-text citation:
EndNote will automatically format both the in-text citation and the corresponding reference. The reference will only be added the first time the source is cited in your assignment. Additionally, EndNote will organize all references alphabetically at the end of the document.
When citing certain sources, you may need to include page numbers. To add this information:
A pop-up window will appear after selecting "Edit & Manage Citation(s)." Enter the page number or range in the appropriate field, then click OK. For sources in HTML format, where page numbers are unavailable, counted paragraphs must be provided. In the Suffix field, enter a comma, followed by a space, then type "para." and the paragraph number.
EndNote will display the page or paragraph numbers in the in-text citation. If the quoted or paraphrased material spans more than one page, EndNote will automatically use "pp." for multiple pages instead of "p." for a single page.
