Different higher education institutions and organizations have established comprehensive guidelines to streamline the use of generative AI within their communities and prevent its potential misuse. These guidelines serve as a framework to ensure that the integration of AI technologies enhances academic and research activities while upholding ethical standards.

The Use of Generative AI in Higher Education at AKU 

The Aga Khan University has developed specific guidelines to ensure the effective and responsible integration of Generative AI technologies into academic practices within higher education. These guidelines are designed to promote the ethical use of AI tools, support educational and research goals, and maintain the integrity of academic work. Through these principles, the university seeks to harness the potential of Generative AI while safeguarding against misuse, thus enhancing the overall quality of education and research within its community. HEC Anti-Plagiarism Policy

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) affirms that the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in research is acceptable, provided that proper attribution is given for any copied or reproduced content. While researchers may utilize AI to explore and understand basic phenomena, it is crucial that these technologies do not replace essential researcher tasks, such as generating scientific insights, analyzing and interpreting data, or drawing conclusions. Authors remain fully responsible and accountable for the content of their work and should not rely exclusively on AI-generated material. HEC has prepared a draft framework on the use of Generative AI tools in Higher Education Institutes. After gathering feedback from universities, it will be implemented. Read more
